Detroit Catholic Central High School welcomes Matt Lewis as the new Assistant Dean of Students. Learn about him here! 

On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Detroit Catholic Central High School held its annual Spring Sports Assembly in honor of the current season. Also, during the assembly, Athletic Director Aaron Babicz ’93 announced Joe Curtain ‘24 as this year’s Whalen Award winner.  

Seven Honors Chemistry students participated in the Science and Engineering Fair of Metro Detroit, competing against almost 600 high school students in the area. All seven students were recognized with various awards. 

On April 13, the Varsity Academic Team secured its 13th consecutive State Championship title at the Michigan High School State Championship Tournament located on the campus of the University of Michigan.

The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) secured Catholic Central’s Brooks Rogowski ’26 in the Second Round and as the first American during the draft on April 12. He will be playing for the Oshawa Generals. 

On Friday, April 12, 2024, students learned how to leverage dopamine to overcome procrastination during a Drive Development Day presentation hosted by Student Wellness Counselor, Jodi Siberski, and Athletic Director, Aaron Babicz ‘93.

On Thursday, April 11, 2024, Nick Saban visited Detroit Catholic Central High School and spoke to students about being humble, the importance of discipline, and the challenge of avoiding complacency when experiencing success.  

Catholic Central High School has welcomed Brian “LB” Booker as the newest member of the Admissions Office.

On March 22, students participated in a Drive Development Day by taking a field trip to HH Barnum in Brighton. During the field trip, students took a tour of the warehouse and automation trailer and participated in hands-on training. 

On Thursday, March 21, 2024, Catholic Central faculty attended professional development training hosted by Licensed Clinical Therapist, Leah-Mills Chapman, LMSW. During the workshop, staff held discussions about culture within CC from both faculty and student’s perspectives.

This week, Mark Anderson ’84 discussed the Supply Chain Management industry with Catholic Central High School students as part of the ongoing Career Speaker series Event.  

“My most important job as the CEO of a logistics company is to establish the culture. Every day, I make sure this is a place where we are safe, we treat people right, we’re a kind organization, and we put customers before everything else. If you don’t have a fit culturally within an organization, I’d leave right away,” he stated.  

This week, Thomas Sprys-Tellner ’15 hosted a Med School 101 workshop for Catholic Central High School students interested in attending medical school after graduation. During his visit, he discussed a variety of topics related to medical school, including how to prepare and what to expect. 

Last week, 50 Detroit Catholic Central High School seniors from AP Government classes attended CC Law Day in Downtown Detroit where they sat in on live court cases and networked with CC alumni currently practicing law. 

On April 13, 2024, Catholic Central High School seniors David Kibbey, Drew Lehnert, and Chase Ziegler will be hosting the second annual Founders Dinner fundraising event in conjunction with Cauley Ferrari of Detroit, benefitting their non-profit organization. Guests can preview the current lineup of Ferrari vehicles, bid on live auction items, and enjoy food and spirits. 

Jordan Beachnau, Jon Zabick and Nick Switzer had previously shared their testimonies as part of the Archdiocese of Detroit’s ongoing I AM HERE campaign, an immersive initiative designed to encourage Catholics and others to discover Christ’s real presence in the Eucharist.

Today, Catholic Central held a school-wide pep assembly to celebrate the hockey team’s five-peat State Championship performance. To date, the hockey program has secured 22 State Championships.

The Detroit Catholic Central (DCC) varsity swim team had a solid outing this past Saturday at the 2024 MHSAA Division 1 State Championship meet, securing an admirable third-place finish. 

Today, Catholic Central hosted a Drive Development Day on the topic of preparing for the world of work, hosted by Michael Oliver, Ph.D., L.P.C., Associate Dean of Career Services at Schoolcraft College. Students learned about the importance of thinking about a career path while still in high school, how to build an effective resume, and tips for a successful interview.
